
Learning Resource Centre (LRC)
The Learning Resources Centre at Middlesbrough College is at the heart of the learning culture of the College.
The Learning and Resources Centre has over 40,000 books and nearly 200 computers available for use by students and staff.
A team of qualified and experienced staff are ready to assist LRC users to access resources and make the most of the facilties available.
Computers are available for group or individual use and there us an IT Support Desk where you can book your computer and ask for help. Every computer has access to the internet and Blackboard, for you to access e-learning materials and on-line resources for your course work. Printers, scanners and photocopiers are available on all floors. All floors are also equipped with bookable PCs and WiFi, if you prefer to bring in your own laptop and work somewhere quieter.
The First Floor includes the Main LRC Entrance and the LRC Reception desk, the Multi-media room with specialist software, DVDs, CDs and Videos, the Sight and Sound Area with accessible technology and software and RNIB support, Skills for Life resources, tables for group work, a General Reference area including resources for Staff Development and a display area for new resources, where you can browse or read the daily newspapers, and the Careers Resources Area.
The Second Floor has a large and up-to-date collection of books and journals in vocational subjects such as Travel and Tourism, Catering, Arts and Media and Engineering, tables for individual study, an Enquiry Desk, the Information Skills training room, resources for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and the Local History Collection.
The Third Floor contains an extensive collection of books and journals for subjects such as Management, Law, Information Technology, Education and Social Sciences with a dedicated Quiet Study Area, the Fiction Collection and seminar rooms. There is an Enquiry Desk here too for help in locating resources.
To take advantage of the facilties and resources available in the Learning Resources Centre, you need to register as a user. Simply bring your College ID card to enter the Centre or obtain a Visitor’s Card from College Reception.
