Employer funding to take on an apprentice
The team at Northern Skills Group are on hand to discuss any available funding options for your business and support you with eligibility criteria along with how to apply. Funding may be available to support the cost of your apprentice’s training and their salary.
Government Apprenticeship Grant Deadline
The current apprenticeship grant which provides employers in England with a payment for each new apprentice hired will be extended for a further six months to September. Employers who hire a new apprentice between the below dates will receive £3,000, regardless of the their age.
This is on top of the £1,000 payment already provided for new apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those under 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan, meaning that some employers could receive £4,000 in total.
The deadline for grant applications for apprentices that started in their role before 1st April 2021 is the 31st May 2021.
For apprentices that started after 1st April 2021, the grant deadline is 30th September 2021.

Tees Valley Combined Authority Support Grant
An Apprenticeship Support Grant is available to SME’s identified by Tees Valley Combined Authority as being in one of the above Priority Sectors. The following funding is available:
- Apprentices Aged 16-18 – Grant of £3,000 is available
- Apprentices Aged 19+ – Grant of £2,000 is available
For any employers who do not fall into one of the above Priority Sectors, the following Grant is available:
- Apprentices Aged 19+ – Grant of £500 is available
